When developing RPA solutions, we break down our processes into multiple REFramework solutions or simple workflow files which run independently. For example, when dealing with web scraping and processing, we develop a dispatcher solution and a performer solution using REFramework which are independently executed one after the other.

  

In order to execute the Performer right after the Dispatcher process completes, people use many approaches. Some tend to include the Performer within the dispatcher workflow which can make it much more complicated while some come up with workaround solutions to handle this manually or by simple controller workflows.

  

However, if these Dispatcher, Performer and all the independent solutions are in UiPath Orchestrator as separate processes, we can easily execute them without any hassle using this controller template. In situations where you need to schedule these tasks to be run one after the other at a particular day/ time, rather than scheduling each and every independent process, we can simply schedule this one controller solution and it will handle the rest automatically.

  

**Prerequisites**

  

The tasks that should be executed through the controller workflow solution should be published to the Orchestrator and should be available under Processes

  

**About the Controller**

  

The controller workflow is developed using REFramework. We have to include all the processes that need to be run in sequential order in the Configuration Excel sheet. The process will access this Excel sheet and extract the jobs that need to be executed one after the other.

This snippet is a good example of the Global Error Handling mechanism of UiPath. Almost every automation project handles exceptions in its own way.

  

This exception handling can be enhanced even further by introducing Global Error Handling. This snippet is simply a plug-and-play workflow solution for global error handling. Just add this to your automation solution and you are ready to go!

  

**What is does**

  

It will be the second level of error handling of any unmanaged or unexpected errors that occur while executing the workflow solutions. The global error handling XAML file will be called in such instances and it will try to retry the execution of the failed activity.

  

The number of retry attempts is defined in the global error handler itself. If the retry attempts are successful, the workflow will continue to execute without any problem. However, if all retry attempts fail, the global error handler will terminate the execution of the process.

  

This snippet accepts two input arguments. **NOTE:** Please make sure not to edit/remove these arguments as they are system-defined and it will not work if you remove them. While executing these arguments will be used by the system in case of an unmanaged error. You do not need to pass anything or define invoke workflow activities to execute the global error handler.

  

Every retry attempt is logged in detail along with the exception information.

This is a simple workflow snippet that can be used to merge the data of multiple Excel files which reside in different folders within a specified parent folder. You can simply add this workflow to your solution and pass the parent folder path so that it will simply do the search and provide the merged data as an output.

  

**How it works**

  

1.  Once you provide the parent folder path, the workflow will first find all the sub-directories within the specified parent folder.
2.  Each sub-directory folder will be looped to search for .xlsx files within the folders.
3.  All the found Excel files will be added to a List which will be used later to extract data.
4.  This list will be looped to access each Excel file. Within the loop, the workflow uses an Excel application scope to find all the available workbook sheets within the Excel file.

If there are multiple sheets, the data in all the sheets will be extracted onto a data table variable. However, **NOTE:** to extract data only in a specific sheet, please remove the loop that is used to loop through the workbook sheets. Additionally, make sure to provide the sheet name in the Read Range activity since it will not be capturing the sheet name if the loop is removed.

  

The extracted data will be stored in a temporary data table variable and will be merged into another data table outside the loop. This second data table variable will actually hold all the data that are extracted from each file and finally, it will be assigned to an output parameter to return the data.

  

**Arguments**

  

Input argument - In\_FolderPath - provide the parent folder path

Out argument - Out\_MergedData - returns the merged data of all processed Excel files

Ease out merging of data from multiple Excel files which reside in different folders within a specified parent folder

We talk about end-to-end process automation a lot these days. End-to-end automation has human in the loop scenarios. Handling such scenarios will need multiple processes, and Orchestrator queues to process the data in an efficient manner.

  

When a bot comes across certain transaction data that require human validation, it can easily add the data that require human validation to a separate queue and continue processing the rest of the tasks. This queue can automatically trigger the workflow that creates a task for the user to verify and will be put on hold until the task is verified.

  

After verification, the process can be configured in a way that the data is being returned to its main process by adding it to the main queue or by other means with the required data to continue depending on user decision.

  

This workflow template will handle the task creation based on the data in a queue. It will also provide a space where the developer can configure how the workflow should be handled depending on the approval and rejection decision of the user.

  

**Note:** The workflow contains comments and annotations to make it easy for you to understand what it does.

  

  

**Points to note when developing**

*   The input argument "in\_TransactionQueueName" should hold the name of the queue which it should get transactions from
*   The Form Data Collection property contains input arguments passed from the queue. The field identifier of TransactionItem.SpecificContent("FieldIdentifier") has to be changed according to the field identifiers you have on your queue
*   You can include your own logic to handle how the workflow should handle the user approval and rejections

Every file we create on our computers has its own set of attributes that describe it. These attributes are usually unique to each file type apart from quite common attributes like the created date and modified date.  

Why worry about these attributes?

  

These attributes come in handy when we are working on file system-based automation solutions. It provides an activity that can easily access and retrieve all the properties of any given file. This activity will not only provide the standard and common attributes but will also look for the extended attributes that are unique to each file type. For example, mp4 files have lots of unique attributes like bit rate, frame size, video length, directors, etc.

  

This activity pack provides all that information in a Dictionary,  format. The activity will look for every attribute of a given file type and validate whether those attributes have any defined values. The attributes that don’t have any defined value will be excluded from the output it generates. Every attribute that has a defined value will be added to a Dictionary type and will be returned to a user.

  

**Arguments**

*   Input: File path: Provide the file path of the file you need to extract metadata from.
*   Output: Extracted Data (Dictionary,): All the extracted metadata will be returned in this format. The attribute name will be described in the Key of the dictionary and its value will be under the value segment of the dictionary.
